The Power of Thought

When I read the start of my story, I could not believe how negative I sounded. If your thoughts create the actions and reactions in the world around you, then my world was not going to change in a hurry. In fact, I think the beginning of the story was just going to repeat itself over and over until I changed my way of thinking. I think you would call it a rut!

The changes in my life have not made me an overnight millionaire (yet). They have not given me the body of Adonis (yet). They have not attracted playboy bunnies to my side (yet…..sorry dear). They have not led me to holidays skiing at exotic locations or lazing on tropical Islands (yet). The changes have given me the belief that I can achieve what I desire. They have given me the motivation to finish my house, which has been a time consuming desire. They have led me to camping holidays at Wilson’s Promontory National Park near my home. I have started a CD business specializing in hypnotic, healing and relaxation music. More than all of this, the changes have given me a positive and creative outlook. The enjoyment has not been in finishing the house, or having a business or getting a holiday. It has been about the happy experiences creating these things. It is not the finished product that is so important but the experience of creating it.

Although the subconscious mind is a super computer, it is not very bright. It records everything we see and do and picks up patterns in the recordings. These patterns then become our habits or responses to repeated circumstances. These patterns are often created when we are very young. We observe the people around us and copy their actions and responses as a way to aid communication and fit in with our social environment. Patterns in belief are created about ourselves when we absorb and copy others statements and opinions. Patterns are created at any time we start to act or react in the same way repeatedly. This could be anything from starting to smoke or simply getting up at a different time every morning.

I think you can see how these patterns can be hugely beneficial or incredibly destructive, all depending on the way you think. Some people can pull themselves out of incapacitating circumstances by being aware of their thoughts and choosing not to focus on the negative and destructive ones. Others sink deeper and deeper into the cycle of unchecked negative thought patterns, losing themselves in despair and depression. They get poor feedback from the people around them reinforcing there negativity and their lack of confidence and control. At these times, there is no light at the end of the tunnel and all hope is gone. The people and the environment around them generate the experiences they have at this stage of their life. This is the time when they can easily create a life of poverty, ill health, poor relationships and a poor spiritual outlook. They do not believe they have any control over their circumstances and see the world as a dark place.

I may have a photo of myself in a suit on the homepage, but I am just like anyone else and I have felt like this at various times of my life. I think most people do. My only comment on these times would be, “What a waste of time!”

To overcome these feelings is to change the way you think. If you think positively your feelings are positive and you and your life are positive. If you think this way regularly, then it will become your pattern of behavior. It will become the opposite of the cycle of despair. It will become the cycle of creativity and happiness. Rick Collingwood, the clinical hypnotherapist responsible for the Life Improvement Series of CDs, travels the world giving seminars on the importance of happiness and attunement with the subconscious mind.

Imagine if you will, how the cycle of happiness spirals upwards in the same fashion as the cycle of depression spirals downward. People around you give you great feedback because you are happy and good to be around. This feedback reinforces and strengthens your confidence in yourself. Through confidence and happiness comes the ability to control where you desire to go with your life. Suddenly you are not thrown about by the whims of the universe. Rather the universe seems to bend at your will, sending people and opportunities toward you. Any book about success or gaining what you desire will always talk about positive thinking and believing in yourself.

The difficult part is to maintain that positive thinking. At any time, it seems, your thoughts can change and your world can start to falter. This applies to all the facets of your life whether it is wealth, health, love or spirituality. This is the time to use the unlimited potential of your subconscious mind to create the positive patterns for the future and remove the limitations placed upon you by the past. You can choose to do that now.

The importance of positive thinking is paramount to choosing a great number of successful and creative experiences. I do not believe we are on this planet to wait for destiny to show itself to us while we blow in the wind of chance. I believe we are on this planet to use our free will, to choose our experiences and to follow our hearts desires. Our free will is what gives us the ability to choose. Our choice will always come from a place of fear or of love. Negativity comes from fear while positivity comes from a place of love. Every decision leads us further along the evolutionary path bringing us closer to who we really are.

We all have the power of gods and yet somehow we seem to forget that we do!
